New Steam update kills sound
This game ran perfectly until the Steam update that was just force-applied. Now there's no sound in the game, even tho it still works perfectly in all of my other games. Defense Grid has gone from being great fun to unplayable in the course of a 30-second upgrade. I'm running an HT Omega Claro.

Latest patch killed my sound too, was it a DirectX update?

How soon for a fix??

Me too

Purchased the full game last night (25th). No sound for me either.

No Sound

I join the masses that have no sound.

Yup, dead sound after update, but on the plus side...

The update killed sound for this game on my machine as well. On the up side, however, I can now enjoy Defense Grid in Fullscreen mode without it horking up whatever game I try to run after it. I sure hope they fix this problem soon. I also hope they improve their internal testing. This glaring fault would never make it out the door of other companies.

this is pretty shocking. i

this is pretty shocking. i work for an online social networking company. we release new code once a week. if there's a problem that's affecting customers, we release a fix as soon as possible. we don't take the weekend off leaving customers with a crippled product. this is ridiculous, you released on tha thursday, broke the game for virtually all customers, and there's been dead silence on the matter. unconscionable. you have an obligation to your customers to release a fix. when will this happen?

same problem and one more

And Steam support is useless on this topic. Their help file just runs you in circles.

no sound since steam update

Similar situation to all other comments, sound no longer works after Steam Update as of around a couple of days ago, before that it was fine. As in some other posts there was also a DirectX driver installed at the same time. The sound is now hosed completely alas, a pile of festering poo of an update if you ask me..... The question is of course is when is it going to be sorted that's what I'd like to know? Haven't seen any pearls of wisdom from the tech support team on this thread yet I think????

Re: no sound since steam update

This happened to me as well. I was wondering what the heck happened to my computer until I realized it was only Defense Grid was having a problem. The sound worked perfectly before Steam said it was installing a new DirectX driver. I remember thinking that was pretty strange at the time. Did it do something like install a 32-bit driver on my 64-bit O/S? Or a Windows 7 driver when I have Vista? Anyway, I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit and my sound card is a Sound Blaster X-Fi. An official comment would be nice.

The update killed my sound

The update killed my sound too. Did these guys even test this thing? I don't think they did a very good job of it.
