i bought my map packs 1-4 from STEAM & i have installed thru STEAM for the game was a hard copy which needed to update before STEAM would let me online.

So the map packs do not directly work with the retail disc game. Rather, the retail disc game comes with a Steam code in the manual that allows you to get a second copy of the game via Steam. It sounds like you used this code and installed the Steam version of Defense Grid on your computer. You then purchased the map packs as well, and you should find them inside the Steam version of your game, but not inside the disc version of your game. I'm guessing you have everything you need, but of course when you launch the version of the game from the disc install, you aren't seeing anything. Instead, launch Steam, and then double click on the Defense Grid icon found in your "library" section. You should then find the map packs (and Borderlands expansion!) as part of that copy of Defense Grid you likely also have installed on your computer.

Some questions about your purchase.
1. Did you purchase your map packs on Xbox 360 or Steam?
2. If you bought them on Steam, are you using them with a Steam version of the main game?
